UNAG assistance to CEC for Extraordinary Presidential Elections and Plebiscites of January 5, 2008

UNAG, within the frameworks of National Integration and Tolerance in Georgia (NITG), supported by USAID, and under the aegis of US Elections Taskforce initiative delivered Translation and Publishing assistance to Central Election Commission for Extraordinary Presidential Elections and Plebiscites of January 5, 2008.</p> <p>UNAG provided the translation of elections related documentations in four minority languages: Armenian, Azerbaijani, Ossetian and Russian. List of translated documentations include: bulletins, summary protocols, legal and procedural instructions, applications, records books, voters lists in regions that are densely populated by national minorities, posters etc. and Precinct Elections Commission Manual which was developed by CEC to provide complete legal and procedural guidance to members of precinct elections commissions in conducting the elections procedures on the voting day.</p> <p>As a part of assistance package, UNAG contributed with publishing of Precinct Elections Commission Manual in three minority languages (Armenian, Azeri and Ossetian), that were also distributed by CEC to PECs in the regions populated by ethnic minorities. Translation and Publishing of the documentation guaranteed the most aware participation of national minorities in Extraordinary Presidential Elections and Plebiscites of January 05, 2008 through minimization of language barriers.
