Academic Role-Plays in ANI’s Youth Centers

October 24 – November 01, ANI conducted Model UN trainings in ANI’s Youth Centers of Zugdidi, Kutaisi, Akhaltsikhe, Gori, Gardabani and Telavi, preparing up to 150 young members for the national cycle of MUN sessions and conferences, planned in December 2012. Global nuclear disarmament and Iran’s Nuclear Program was selected as the key issue to be discussed by the General Assembly of the United Nations, which will be simulated by 6 Youth Centers, which chose to create and run the Model UN sub-clubs in their Centers.</p> <p>Model United Nations (MUN), an academic simulation of the<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations" title="United Nations">United Nations</a>aims to equip youngsters with practical skills in public speaking, presentations, argumentation and negotiation. MUNs educate the participants about the key trends and events in international relations, diplomacy and cooperation, as well as the role and agenda of the United Nations and other intergovernmental agencies. Participants are assigned a country individually or in groups, which they then represent on the simulated session of the General Assembly, Security Council or other UN agency, after comprehensive research and training. </p> <p>Trained youngsters will participate in MUN sessions locally (6 municipalities/sessions), after which the 30 most successful participants will be selected to represent their countries on a national MUN Conference in Tbilisi (5 from each club). National MUN participants will also go through the training of trainers and then re-produce the Model UN experience for their peers in their Youth Centers and communities.
