Youth for Change

Building for the Future

Youth for Change - Building for the Future was a five-year project with the goal of empowering youth to engage in building democracy in their localities and nationwide. It involved youth in diverse activities in Tbilisi and six provinces, and attempted to build bridges with youth in Georgia's two breakaway provinces – Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

The project worked through school-based, action-oriented Youth Activist Clubs. The Clubs were self-managed, student-run entities, providing future leaders with significant management-related training, skills and responsibilities, both within the schools as well as within the broader community.  A total of 203 Youth Activist Clubs were eventually opened. Of these, 48 clubs were designated as Hub Clubs, each of which supported three to five additional Youth Activist Clubs in nearby areas.

Activities

  • Training for 150 teachers in the areas of civic participation, conflict transformation, business skills, and advocacy;
  • Preparing more than four hundred 18-19-year-old students for the job market or university through training;
  • Helping about 13,000 secondary school students (aged 15-17) to acquire all the necessary skills for contributing to regional socio-economic development after finishing school;
  • Annual summer camp activities;
  • Support for student-developed and implemented small grants, which benefited schools and local communities.

Partners

The project was supported by USAID and led by Catholic Relief Services (CRS), in close cooperation with three designated implementing partners: UNAG, the Sukhumi Youth House (Abkhazia), and Journalists for Human Rights (South Ossetia).
